Info Sci alumni Nicholas Knouf (Ph.D '13) recently published his first book, most of its contents based off work he did while a Ph.D student at Cornell. Published by University of Minnesota Press, "How Noise Matters to Finance" shows how noise – sonic, informatic or otherwise – affects the ways in which financial markets function. Knouf draws on different forms of financial noise, honing in on "how interference from humans and machines changes the meanings of noise to shift over space and time."
Knouf is currently an assistant professor of Cinema and Media Studies at Wellesley College. You can read up on his research and accomplishments at his personal site and follow him on Twitter @zeitkunst.
