Paul Ginsparg, professor of physics and information science, leads the virtual "Unmuted" advising session on the Data Science concentration at 4:30 p.m. (EDT) Friday, May 14, 2021. Ginsparg has recently used techniques from statistical mechanical models, specifically the Potts spin glass, to investigate community detection in networks. He has used these to develop new algorithms for clustering arXiv.org subject areas on the basis of full-test similarities, co-author networks, citation networks, and co-readership collaborative filtering. "Unmuted" is a series of 15 open, forum-style advising sessions with Info Sci faculty, happening virtually this semester. These hybrid, drop-in office hours are designed to help undergraduate students navigate the major, understand its concentrations, career options, graduate school, research opportunities, and much more. Open to all Cornell undergraduates.
