The Cornell Information Science Department is developing new research-grounded active learning approaches that will expand our ability to deliver an innovative curriculum across the full range of departmental research and teaching areas, including in large-scale class environments. Working in partnership with the Cornell Active Learning Initiative and a team of Information Science faculty, we seek a 2-year Postdoctoral Active Learning Teaching and Research Fellow who will help shape departmental efforts through an integrated program of pedagogy, curriculum development, and evaluation.
Primary duties of the position include:
- collaborative support and co-design of participating undergraduate classes, including the integration of active learning techniques and principles
- participation in active learning research and assessment activities at the department and wider university level
- sharing active learning research findings and best practices with departmental faculty and collaborators in the Cornell-wide Active Learning Initiative
- developing and teaching one or more new undergraduate classes in the candidate’s primary research area that draw on and demonstrate active learning principles (subject to departmental and college approval)
Applications are welcome from recent Ph.D. graduates in all Information Science sub-fields represented in the department (for more information on these, please view our website); from Ph.D. graduates in education or the learning sciences; and from graduates of allied disciplinary fields.
An ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-based and multidisciplinary environment is essential, as is demonstrated experience, commitment and success in classroom teaching (at the instructor or teaching assistant level). This one-year position, with the expectation to be renewed for a total of two years, will be an ideal fit for scholars in Information Science and allied fields looking to build research-based skills and experience in teaching as a central part of their scholarly program of work.
